LIVERPOOL SPEAKERS CLUB OPEN EVENING

In collaboration with Speed Mooting

On 8th April, Speed Mooting is proud to collaborate with Liverpool Speakers Club to host a special open meeting, giving guests the opportunity to experience a live speakers club session and discover how it can elevate your advocacy skills and legal career.

Whether you’re a law student, aspiring barrister or solicitor, or early in practice, this evening is designed to help you build confidence, sharpen your public speaking, and expand your professional network.

📍 Venue

The Racquet Club, Liverpool
6.30pm arrival | 7.00pm start

What to Expect

Expert Insight

The evening will begin with a 10-minute presentation by criminal barrister, John Dove, who will speak about:

- The importance of public speaking in legal practice

- How structured speaking practice accelerates career progression

- How Liverpool Speakers Club supports aspiring and practising lawyers

Live Speeches & Professional Evaluation

Guests will:

- Listen to two prepared speeches delivered by club members

- Observe how each speech is professionally evaluated by experienced members

Impromptu Speaking Session

Next comes one of the most popular (and fun!) parts of the evening — impromptu speeches. Participants are given a hidden topic and must immediately deliver a short speech.

Guests are warmly invited to take part, but there is absolutely no pressure.

Networking, Buffet Food & Drinks

This is your chance to connect with members, ask questions, and decide whether joining a Speakers Club could be a valuable step in your legal development.

Why Attend?

Liverpool Speakers Club operates under the Association of Speakers Clubs framework, a long established organisation dedicated to developing confident and effective speakers.

The ASC has clubs located all over the country, and representatives from multiple clubs will be in attendance on the evening.

Through regular structured meetings, ASC members develop:

- Confidence in public speaking

- Clear and persuasive communication

- The ability to think on their feet

- Leadership and evaluative skills.

All of which are essential in legal practice.

This open evening is more than just an open evening, it’s a chance to explore a nationwide network dedicated to helping you become a more persuasive, confident, and effective legal professional.

All all welcome, no matter what stage you are up to or what your level of experience is.

Reviews

Nicholas Stone

Future Pupil Barrister and 2023 National Speed Mooting Competition Champion

"Speed Mooting was very helpful with getting pupillage, as the pupillage process tests how well you can make a case.

The Speed Mooting competition gave me a good chance to become a better speaker, and to gain more confidence in my abilities. It's a great opportunity to test yourself and improve.”

Liam Ainscough

Law Lecturer, University of Bolton

“The events I attended were insightful to the industry and mooting was fun and informative at the same time. I would highly recommend that undergraduate students attend the annual moot to not only increase their confidence, but to obtain skills that are desirable in practise. The NSMC team always provide more than enough information and the event is similar to the working paradigm of a barrister. As an academic, I always recommend these events to students.”

Mersede Mardani

Law Student

“Today I joined Speed Mooting's "Introduction to Mooting Course".

I must admit that prior to attending this course, I was not familiar with mooting or what a moot consists of. However, after participating in this course, I can confidently say that thanks to John Dove's incredibly informative presentation, I now thoroughly understand what a moot consists of, and I have the courage to apply this to a moot and experience it first-hand.

I look forward to putting into practice the knowledge I have gained today and continue to attend moots throughout my legal journey.”
