Legal Advocacy Club

(Now Part of the Legal Skills Academy)

Practical advocacy training for aspiring lawyers

Advocacy has always been at the heart of Speed Mooting.

Our Advocacy Club has now been integrated into the Legal Skills Academy, a structured programme where members develop the practical speaking, reasoning, and courtroom skills required for mooting, interviews, and legal practice.

Through regular live sessions, members take part in structured advocacy exercises in small groups, delivering submissions, responding to legal arguments, and receiving feedback in a supportive environment.

Reviews

Real feedback. Real progress.

Jessica Stewart

Law Student

"The Advocacy Club has genuinely strengthened my confidence. The constructive feedback I’ve received has helped me understand not just what to improve, but how to approach it in a way that feels achievable. Learning the formalities of advocacy has also made me feel much more grounded - once I understood the structure and expectations, everything suddenly felt less intimidating. And honestly, being surrounded by such passionate, driven people has been a huge confidence boost in itself. Their energy and support make you want to push yourself and really grow into your own style and voice as an advocate"

Hayley Whitworth

Bar Student

"I just wanted to say that I took part in my first Advocacy Club session the other night, and I was

terrified, but what a supportive and lovely environment it was! I honestly wasn't expecting it to be like that.

I imagined fierce competition and scathing comments, but it was the opposite; everyone was so

encouraging, and the feedback was genuinely intended to help.

Anyone who is considering it but is too nervous, please don't be.

I am annoyed with myself that I

waited so long to get involved because I was nervous!"

Susan Guest

Pupil Barrister

“Joining Advocacy Club last year helped me build my confidence up and this year I secured pupillage!

Practise is absolutely everything.

Absolutely invaluable experience!"
