The advocacy club gives everybody, from nervous beginners to seasoned mooters the chance to practise and hone their advocacy.
What is the Advocacy Club
The advocacy club is a friendly, non-judgmental club for aspiring lawyers to practise and improve their advocacy. The club is open to those who are new to advocacy and looking to make a start through to those who are very experienced in mooting and advocacy.
You will have the chance to meet new people at each meeting. It is a great way to network with your peers within the legal field, have fun and enhance your advocacy at the same time!
Who can join the advocacy club
In a word: anyone.
The club is open to:
– Law undergraduates and graduates; – GDL students and graduates;
– Masters, BPTC and LPC students and graduates
– Pupils, trainee solicitors and those in practise
Our advocacy sessions are based on the law of England and Wales, but people from all over the globe are welcome to join.
How it Works
The advocacy club will take place online via Zoom. The club meets on the last Tuesday of the month (no meetings in August or December). Meetings last from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm.
At each meeting, the members will be split into groups. Within your small group, you will perform the set advocacy challenge for that particular meeting. Once you have all performed, you will then discuss your performances within your group – both what went well and what can be improved. This gives you the chance to practise and develop your advocacy in a friendly environment!
The relevant papers for the meeting will be sent out 7 days prior, so you will have a week to prepare. Each meeting will be focused on a different aspect of advocacy (see the schedule above).
Speed Mooting
At the speed mooting sessions, you will be provided with all the materials needed in advance – skeleton arguments, case law and legislation. There is no drafting or research involved! All you need to do is read the material in advance. On the night, you will take part in mooting and be a judge if you like!
Membership
We have one event remaining for 2022. You can attend the final session of the year for just £9.00.
